All of us are often concerned about the security of our home. Many times we think about what can happen if we are away at night, if we leave the children at home alone or if we go on vacation.

In this article we present you 10 easy tips to keep your family safe, keep thieves away and enjoy your outings and holidays without worrying about the security of your home.

  • Light up every corner of your home: Make sure your home is well lit from the outside. Light scares away thieves as it makes them easier to spot. A good solution would be to install a mechanism to operate lights when motion is detected.
  • Make sure there are no letters or flyers in the mailbox: Make sure your mailbox is empty on a permanent basis. A full mailbox indicates the absence of the owner.
  • Don’t publicize your absence from home: It’s a good idea not to publicize your absence from home on social media, as they may be monitored.
  • Install an alarm system and/or closed circuit monitoring system: Security systems deter potential intruders as with an alarm system the siren will sound and with closed circuit monitoring the figure will at least be seen.
  • Install a security lock: A simple lock makes the space easier to access, so it would be good to install security locks.
  • Do not leave packaging of expensive items in plain sight for a long time: If you have bought an electrical appliance for example, it would be a good idea to put it in the trash just before the garbage truck comes so that it does not pose a challenge to a potential burglar.
  • Close the curtains of the house: If the curtains are open then it is easier for someone to see what is inside the house.
  • Leave a light on at night: Whether you’ve gone to bed or you’re out and about, it’s a good idea to leave some light on inside the house to avoid blackouts and make the intruders’ job easier.
  • Do not leave open windows: An open window or balcony door is an attraction for a potential intruder. Make sure you don’t leave your pet inside the house when you’re away so they don’t have to leave a window or patio door open. Lock doors and windows well.
  • Don’t leave the garage door open: The absence of your vehicle can easily attract a potential burglar.
